Our Mission
Nightingale is a nonprofit organization headquartered in Northern California that provides support for Ukrainian refugees and humanitarian parolees displaced by the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. Through our volunteer work and fundraising efforts, we strive to support Ukrainian families resettling in our community. We are 100% volunteer-based and have no administrative fees, so 100% of your donation goes directly towards helping families not only survive, but successfully rebuild their lives here.

What We Do
We provide a wide range of individualized humanitarian services, and we strive to meet each recipient where they are at. We procure donated items and services and, through our fundraising efforts, we raise money to help families purchase items that we are unable to get donated. We help families put deposits on a first apartment or purchase a used car. Our volunteers are here to give advice and guidance and direct newly arriving families towards available social services, language classes and learn how to apply for benefits. Our volunteers offer rides to appointments and tutoring services for young children getting adjusted at their new American school. We do our best to connect arriving families with affordable or free housing options. Importantly, our volunteers welcome new families in to our community and provide friendship.
Why We Do What We Do
Most Ukrainian families fleeing the war are arriving here in the US without the benefit of having full refugee status in the eyes of the government, so the social services and benefits they receive just aren’t enough. We strive to bridge the gap and treat each arriving family who seeks our support with dignity, kindness and the individual boost that they might need in order to successfully rebuild their lives in our community. In Ukraine, the Nightingale is the creator of sweet sounds, a builder of homes, and a harbinger of spring and new beginnings. Please help us be the Nightingale to those fleeing this horrific war.
How We’ve Helped

Our Recent and Current Projects Include:
- Organizing and distributing Christmas presents, stockings, trees, decorations, and holiday meals for 7 local Bay Area families.
- Securing cars through donations and fundraisers for three local Bay Area families.
- Providing security deposit/first month rent and furnishings for an apartment for two families.
- Providing clothing, toys, supplies and household items to 10 Ukrainian families.
- Purchasing airline tickets and providing travel funds and arrangements for five families leaving Ukraine.
- Providing tutoring for Ukrainian children transitioning into American schools.
- Securing donated classes and camps for Ukrainian children.
- Assisting with school registrations.
- Assisting numerous newly arriving families register for benefits.
- Providing volunteers to give rides to doctor appointments.
- Purchasing new eyeglasses, newborn baby supplies, winter coats, and shoes for the kids!
